Description

Dental x-rays are a type of image of the teeth and mouth. X-rays are a form of high energy electromagnetic radiation. The x-rays penetrate the body to form an image on film or screen. X-rays can be either digital or developed on a film. Repeated exposure to dental X-rays may result in various health problems including head and neck tumors and various systemic problems.Most people get an average of 20 x-rays per year and are always safe, according to American Association of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines. But people who need extra x-rays (due to fillings, extractions, root canals, etc.) may get as many as 60 each year. In the case of X-rays and CT scans, the radiation does not remain in the body. It’s absorbed or passes through within seconds. For radiation therapy, although there’s no residual radioactivity, the biological damage can continue as tissues heal or respond to treatment.
